about

"Hey, Didn't the Beatles Sing About a Submarine?"

So wrote Bill Yardley of the New York Times, upon hearing "Submarine Town" off of Superbald I, at one time used by Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell as a "Save the Subase" rally cry in southeastern CT, where the Pentagon was threatening to close the historic submarine base there. Yardley went on to call the track "2 minutes and 27 seconds of guitar shimmer and driving drums" whose "tune is catchy, with subtle effects that evoke the deep-sea plunge of a submarine."

"Superbald I... Drives like a '74 Cadillac"

Ben Johnson (Now of NPR, formerly of the New London Day) wrote of Superbald I: "Mixing energetic surf and punk riffs with a pop sensibility, the band has completed a fun record that drives like a 1974 Cadillac. Every sound is crisp, from the vocals to the ride cymbal." Superbald plays "a solid list of punk and surf-inspired pop tunes that sound great live and on record."

So... somewhere between a submarine and a '74 Cadillac lies the sound of Superbald.

Superbald was (is?) a rock trio based out of New London county, CT. All longtime friends, guitarist/vocalist Ben Parent, drummer Trevor Chandonnait, and bassist/vocalist Steve Elci brought to the band their own unique distillation of all things rock: impeccable riffs and rhythms, strong melodies, and fierce energy.

Brian LaRue of the New Haven Advocate said of Superbald I: "There's a long and sacred history in Connecticut of bands that play up-tempo, stripped-down, garage-y power-pop, and on this debut Superbald establishes itself a keeper of the tradition. The bands particular brand incorporates crisp drumming, twangy-gritty guitar riffs, and a fistful of driving surf-rock leanings."

Listen, download, enjoy... Superbald I.
